BAFFOO TRAVEL & TOURS - Wine Tours of Southern Germany 2022

The Region boasts over a quarter of all of the allocated gourmet stars in Germany with venues so diversified ranging from countryside castles to the gourmet restaurant located in the Stuttgart Airport. Not only gourmet tastes are pampered but a plethora of guest houses and restaurants in the cities, towns, villages and countryside make sure that every taste is catered for. Culture is written in capital letters here – museums, theatres, shows, exhibitions make this region a cultural highlight. Other highlights have to be the two huge beer festivals in the Spring and the Autumn, the elegant City Summer Festival, the Christmas markets, the Stuttgart Wine Festival, in fact there seems to be a festival somewhere around here every weekend...

Stuttgart – a typical wine region

WineStuttgart –
people who speak of the juice of the grape in Stuttgart praise it in superlatives:

The capital of Baden-Württemberg is not just the biggest wine growing municipality in the Federal Republic, but has Germany’s most beautiful wine festival „The Weindorf“ taking place in Stuttgart in the autumn.

Most of the vineyards are located in the districts of Bad Cannstatt and Untertürkheim as well as in Uhlbach and Rotenberg where fruity white wines, such as Riesling, Kerner, Silvaner or Müller-Thurgau, are cultivated. The most popular red wine in Stuttgart is the Trollinger.

400 wine growers have come together in seven cooperatives.

Additionally, there are more than 100 “independent” wine growers, who sell their wine directly to the consumer or –until stocks are exhausted- open “Besenwirtschaften”, where they temporarily open the doors of their private homes and/or farm buildings to the general public in order to create a unique tavern-like atmosphere.

Numerous awards are the obvious proof of the fact that the “Wengerter” as the Swabians call their wine growers, know their business.

The Viticulture Museum in Stuttgart-Uhlbach has become a rendezvous for all connoisseurs and lovers of fine wine. Here you can see old wine-presses, barrels, glasses, goblets and wine containers from two millennia made from materials that were available at the time. This historical building also has a Wein-Stüble (wine tavern) where you can taste wines from the seven cooperatives of Stuttgart and from the wine growing estate of Stuttgart itself.
